The Campus Health Center (CHC) will officially open its doors to patients at its new location at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 30. As part of Wayne State University’s Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments complex, the CHC will be located at 5285 Anthony Wayne Drive, on the first floor of the northwest corner storefront at Anthony Wayne Drive and Kirby.
Serving the WSU community, the Campus Health Center is a full-service primary care clinic managed by the Nursing Practice Corporation (NPC). The NPC is the faculty practice plan of the Wayne State University College of Nursing.
“The new, state-of-the-art Campus Health Center will enhance nursing student education and experiential learning, which is a critical component of the college’s mission. It will also allow us to expand health care services to the Wayne State community,” said College of Nursing Dean Laurie Lauzon Clabo, who is also president of the NPC. “Most importantly, the significant upgrade of the Campus Health Center’s facilities further reinforces the university’s commitment to student wellness and success and recognizes the College of Nursing’s important role in fulfilling this promise.”
In the fall 2018 and winter 2019 semesters, the CHC offered clinical learning opportunities to over 200 students, held approximately 100 outreach clinics in more than 15 buildings and reached countless students at approximately 50 health programming events across campus.
The CHC was founded in 2005 in a small space in South Hall — now known as Atchison Hall — with only one nurse care provider. In 2018, the CHC scheduled nearly 10,000 appointments to treat students, faculty and staff, and has five nurse practitioners.
“We are committed to improving the entire patient experience. The new clinic was designed with optimal patient flow in mind. It features a spacious waiting room, 10 functional exam rooms, a patient interview/triage room, a treatment room, and a centralized nursing station,” said Ann Rayford, Chief Nursing Officer at the CHC. “We are committed to keeping our focus on providing high-quality, confidential and convenient health care to the WSU campus community.”
The completion of this new contemporary clinic follows the recent launch of CHC’s patient portal and self-scheduling feature. The patient portal introduces modern technology for scheduling appointments and accessing health records, and it offers secure messaging with the CHC’s nurse practitioners and staff.
