Get Yourself Tested!
The ‘Get Yourself Tested’ Campaign is a nationwide effort to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of getting yourself tested for sexually transmitted diseases and infections, especially in the young population. According to the CDC, 1 in 2 sexually active young people will get a sexually transmitted disease by age 25. But due to lack of testing and knowledge that most STDS do not develop symptoms, most will go undiagnosed. That means the risk of spreading an STD due to unawareness is even higher. Going too long without treatment, especially for infections and diseases that are oftentimes treatable and even curable, can lead to worsening and even permanent outcomes such as pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility (in both men and women), increased risk of HIV, and so on. So take control of your body! Get yourself tested at the Wayne State University Campus Health Center in the Deroy building right across from Einsteins. Not only do they provide free testing (HIV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia) to eligible students, but you are able to receive treatment and counseling (HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, and genital warts). You could even use your one free semester wellness visit in order to receive this service. Call to schedule an appointment or walk in on ‘Get Yourself Tested’ Tuesdays!
