Freshmen—Here’s What you need to know about the Campus Health Center

You’re away from home, which means you’re probably away from your family provider. The good news is, Wayne State University’s Campus Health Center can provide most of the services your primary care provider back home can!

What exactly do we do?

The CHC provides treatment for most common illnesses and ailments. Including the Flu, rashes, UTI’s, sprains and many more. A full list of services is available on the CHC Services website. The CHC also provides preventative health care services like immunizations and Tuberculosis testing.  And like your provider back home, the CHC can perform physicals, exams like pap smears and men’s wellness exams as well as free STI testing for infections like HIV, Herpes, Gonorrhea and more.

Where are we located?

The CHC is located at 5285 Anthony Wayne Drive and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. This being said, if you need to be seen by a provider, the CHC recommends that you call ahead using the number (313) 577-5041 or register for our patient portal to make and appointment. Once your appointment has been made, make sure to fill out the appropriate registration forms, available on the CHC website, and arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start of your appointment. Be sure to check out the Covid-19 practices for appointments.

As a registered student, you are eligible for one free illness visit per semester. This means the fee usually associated with being seen and evaluated by one of their health care professionals is waived. Any costs accrued afterward through future visits, testing or procedures will then be billed to your insurance agency. See the CHC website for a full list of accepted insurance providers.

In addition to the “normal” services provided by the CHC, they also offer a number of programs created to specifically cater to the student body of WSU. One of these programs is the Condom Club. The Condom Club provides 50 condoms to each member for the low cost of 5 dollars. All you have to do is call ahead and let the FOCs know you would like to purchase condoms. You can then receive a maximum of 10 condoms per visit until you reach your full 50 condoms. The Condom Club doesn’t just provide male condoms, it also provides female condoms, dental dams, flavored and latex free condoms.

Visit the CHC website, blog, or office (5285 Anthony Wayne Drive) for more information about the CHC and it’s services and programs.
